Wilfried studied Cultural Social Work and Art Education in the Netherlands. During his studies, he discovered and deepened the movement of dance and theater.
Wilfried van Poppel worked actively as a dancer, pantomime and independent choreographer in the Netherlands, the United States and Germany. In 1993, he was honored by the 1st World Dance Congress in San Francisco, for his contribution in choreographic reconstructions of the history of contemporary dance.
From 1994 to 2000, he worked as a dancer in the Tanztheater Bremen company under the direction of Susanne Linke.
Starting in the year 2000, he began to make his own choreographies for and with children and adolescents. At the same time he choreographed in children’s productions and Christmas stories in the theaters of Bremen, Klagenfurt and Braunschweig.
In 2003 he founded the theater dance company “DE LooPERS” for children and young people, together with MOKS in the theater of Bremen. He was the initiator and director of the projects “Dance4Life” Germany and artistic director of ACT in Bremen. He worked in cooperation with Royston Maldoom, with the Music Center of the Radio in Hilversum, and with the Philharmonic Festival of Vienna and Salzburg.
In 2009 he created the association “DE LooPERS dance2gether” to direct and produce numerous community dance projects.
In 2014 the documentary “Five days to dance” was released on the school dance projects that Wilfried directs together with his wife Amaya Lubeigt.
Together they lead the artistic and creative direction of the numerous international community dance projects in different countries, educational centers, universities and dance studios.
His work as a choreographer or community dance instructor has traveled and will continue traveling between countries such as Germany, Spain, Holland, Austria, Ireland, Palestine and South Korea among others.
