Associated schools from Fundació Tr@ms participate in the program “Global Teaching Labs” from the MIT

Fundació Tr@ms and the MIT International Science and Technological Activities (MISTI) have a collaboration agreement that started two years ago which allows the participation of the foundation associated schools in the Global Teaching Labs (GTL) program from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Seven schools associated to Fundació Tr@ms participate in this program during january with a total of eight students. The participating schools this year course are: Aula Balear, Sant Gervasi, Proa, Montseny Studies Center, CIC Batxillerats, Goar and Sant Miquel dels Sants.

The GTL challenges MIT students to synthesize and present their knowledge, work in a team and communicate with colleagues of different cultural backgrounds, sharing the unique MIT focus on science education and engineering with high school students from all over the world. The students that access the program are previously prepared and selected according to their scientific and pedagogical profile.

MIT students are part of the teaching team for four weeks and are hosted by families from the schools. They teach science-related lessons in English using active and creative methodologies imported from the MIT. At the same time, students and teachers from the participating schools have the opportunity to experience the characteristics of the educational system of a prestigious university in the United States.

This is the second course that schools participate in the GTL program and the assessment made by both students and schools is very positive. The impact that this program has on the life of the educational community is very enriching. For this reason, we are working at Fundació Tr@ms so that we can offer this opportunity to our associated centers in the next years.
